That's a huge screen. Reducing the size a bit would eliminate the need for a potentially failure-prone sliding mechanism and likely increase battery life.
no kidding, monster screen, fairly small battery for that size...I wish these "top makers" would stop putting such small batteries A and B stop the BS of "non replaceable" when so damn small.
If it were say 7000mAh, I could understand, but not something below 4000 that is damn sure
Screen resolution isn't nearly as important to battery life as screen size. Yes, lower res = less work for the GPU, but ultimately, the screen still needs to put out X lumens of light across a given area. More area = more power.
I actually wonder if the screen argument runs the OTHER direction: The # of components in the sliding mechanism makes it impractical for smaller screen sizes
I don't know how the sliding mechanism is constructed in the Lenovo example in this article, but I did at one point own a slider running Android 2.2 with a 3.2 inch screen - an LG Optimus Slider...it worked relatively well and was maybe had 1/3rd of the length and width of this phone.
This is an announcement. None of the phones are being released until January. I'm pretty sure you could mention the 12GB/512GB variant in the article, even if it's only a brief mention. AnandTech does plenty of articles about products without release dates or pricing.
What do you expect? The phone won’t be out for several more months. It’s the law that new Android phones can’t have an OS that’s later than 6 months before the phone comes out. Rarely is special dispensation allowed, unless it’s a phone that almost no one will buy.
Better get the Vivo Nex S Dual display phone if anyone is seriously into these, as it has no slider mechanism like this making the phone vulnerable to many points of physical wear and tear.
Also the Nex S both variants have an AKM DAC/AMP HiFi chip combo which rivals LG V30 setup, (heard V40 is tuned by meridian which ruined or changed the sound tuning to more analytical, vs Lush sound of V30, No wonder the engg team left after the PR team failed on that), the headphone jack. And more battery as well.
If it’s only able to be used in China, and possibly a couple of other Asian markets, why bother mentioning it Here? It’s not relevant to us. And the chip itself won’t be out until some time mid to late first quarter, so the phone will be later than that.
Every time I see anything about a new lenovo phone I hope they've come to their senses and produced an updated lenovo p2. The combo of an actual attractive / non-ugly normal sized phone with a 5000mah battery, reasonably power efficient OLED screen and soc has yet to be reproduced by anyone else.
Seriously, anyone that replicates the p2 but with a good camera and new SoC (SD710?) will have made the best phone on the market...
Interesting that the first phone to ship with Snapdragon 855 features neither 5G radios (maybe not surprising since it's a Chinese-localized device) nor 802.11ax/WiFi 6 (which does surprise me a little).
It makes me wonder if they really designed the phone with the 855 in mind, or just threw it in relatively late in the development process.
Knowing Lenovo, It seems like they have more focused on screen then its performance improvements. I wish these "top producers" would quit putting such little batteries and stop the "non replaceable" so damn little batteries. https://surveyforcustomers.com

1080p (albeit 19.5:9), AMOLED. I think there's plenty of juice in that battery to last throughout the day.melgross - Tuesday, December 18, 2018 - link
AMOLED is no more efficient than LCD, possibly less efficient. Don’t believe the hype.sing_electric - Wednesday, December 19, 2018 - link

Keep in mind what matters here is the width; in terms of form-factor it's no different than a Galaxy S9+.sing_electric - Wednesday, December 19, 2018 - link

Every other site is reporting the Z5 Pro GT as having 12GB of RAM with 512GB of storage - did AnandTech miss something in their article?nandnandnand - Tuesday, December 18, 2018 - link
Came here wondering about this. Looks like Anandtech goofed on this one.Andrei Frumusanu - Tuesday, December 18, 2018 - link

12 GB RAM / 512 GB storage variant is listed at 4398 yuan.
Please send my AnandTech job offer to the email attached to my account.

It's listed in a slide, it's nowhere on their actual product pages, which likely means it's an SKU that won't arrive until later.nandnandnand - Tuesday, December 18, 2018 - link

There’s no evidence that 12GB is of any advantage. And I thought that that was wrong, and it’s 6/8GB.jjj - Tuesday, December 18, 2018 - link
