Sheesh, all this bickering... will no one think of the eggs!? Anand has assured us the egg recipe will be ours for the trying; why argue when you can celebrate?
In other words, don't feed the troll. This isn't an after-school special, no one is going to learn the true meaning of thanksgiving, or how to respect other cultures, or even how to spell. This is anandtech, where we learn about computers and, unmoved-mover willing, anand's family recipes.
(I am #3):I am not intolerant of other holidays. In fact, I am an American myself, but I hated the fact that you portrayed this site as an American site - ""international readers" junk... this is an American site... on American servers..."
What does that suppose to mean? What if people in other countries don't celebrate Thanksgiving? Just because the webmaster of this site is American and just because the site is hosted on American servers doesn't mean that Anand should change his viewpoints.
Aethists (sp) do get offended if you say "God Bless" or whatever in front of them because they don't believe in God. What I am trying to say is that you shouldn't play the International vs. National joke.
#5, The rest of the world isn't necessarily intolerant of United States traditions, but maybe a minority like #3. I'm an Australian and I can appreciate Thanksgiving. I've celebrated it in the past when living abroad (mind you my neighbours were Americans). I loved eating pumpkin pie and all the other things associated with thanksgiving. I can appreciate that the Pilgrims first celebrated it after suffering so much during their first winter in America. Anand, no need to feel that saying Happy Thanksgiving on this internationally renowned site is impolite. In fact, my MSN nick is appended with "Happy Thanksgiving (for yesterday)" at the moment for all my American friends.
And I'd like to finish by saying Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who read this!
#4, exactly right... goes to show how the rest of the world is totally intolerant of United States traditions, when we bend over backwards to be tolerant of other countries...
Oh well, I know I'm thankful for what has been provided for me, not sure why Thanksgiving is an "American" holiday in the first place, I would think everyone in all countries were thankful for what they have, be it from God, Allah, Buddha, even themselves. Thanksgiving should not be "nation dependent" like the 4th of July, but should be embraced by all nations. Not only to give thanks, but also, come on, how many times a year can you stuff your face silly and not feel guilty??? Once again, Happy Thanksgiving!
#3, what's wrong with Thanksgiving, do you not have any family to spend it with? Why the hostility? I'm American and I have never heard another person "put down" or "bash" any holiday of another country. It sickens me that anyone would ignore or dishonor their own holidays and traditions to keep from offending someone.
Would you be offended if this was a Japanese site and the webmaster stated "Happy Emperor's Birthday" (Dec. 23, FYI)? I didn't think so.
#1: I applaud your ignorance. AnandTech becomes an International site even if it gets visitors from Canada and since AnandTech is one of the top, tier 1 hardware sites, it is clearly visited by numerous international visitors.
The least you can do is shut up and stop shuving Thanksgiving on everyone's face.
I can't believe stupid people like you still exist in this world. Not to mention the fact that stupid are so out spoken.
Come on Anand, don't play the "international readers" junk... this is an American site... on American servers... covering mostly American technologies... Happy THANKSGIVING everyone!
